LIVING A SMALL LIFE

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I have heard a few leaders recently saying things like its OK to have a small life that focuses on self and to not dream, it’s also OK to not want to change the world.
I just can’t find a verse to substantiate that, in fact I find the contrary. We are told about living in a realm where ears and eyes have never been, we are told to die to our grandiose selves and to put the kingdom of God first, and in the departing words of Christ we are commissioned to go into all the world preaching and baptizing.
When leaders start talking about the contrary they are preparing to take their life back and run it at a less committed level. Their words are centered around themselves and their life and what they are going to do.
When a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies it produces life.

Phil Pringle’s latest blog has a fantastic entry on this, love the layout.

“Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.” Gen 13:11

The most boring & empty life is when you live for yourself. Biggest mistake Lot ever made was to chose for himself.

Abraham had given Lot 1st choice. He should have told Abraham he would go wherever he told him. Living for God means I eat, breathe, sleep, rest, work, think, study, train, plan & dream…. for Him, not for me.

Living for God will disadvantage me at times, many times, but that’s where real life is discovered, in sacrifice for another.

Lot should have chosen for Abraham and made sure he got the best land instead of choosing it for himself. After he separated from Abraham (his source of blessing) Lot spiraled downhill. Also, as soon as Lot left, God gave Abraham the vision of the Promised Land.

Our vision can be limited or expanded by the associations in our lives!

See you in Church!

NEW MINI PROJECTORS

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

We are very excited about this!

Have you ever had the dilemma where you have heaps of different rooms at your Kid’s Church and really need to have some kind of visuals in all of them but don’t have the thousands of dollars to spend on projectors? Audio and Visual gear can easily cost lots of money, and many times we can’t justify the benefits versus the cost of making it happen.

Well, recently, one of the guys in our Planetkids team approached us with a solution – a mini projector. As you can see above, this nifty little unit is probably the most portable visual device I have ever seen. Around-a-bout the size of a Bible, we are putting these mini projectors in all of our early childhood rooms and primary rooms so that everyone has the benefits that a full visual system brings, for a fraction of the cost. I’m talking less than 500 bucks each!

Not only are these things cheap, but they have all of the inputs that a normal projector has: it connects to your laptop as per normal and even has a built in speaker (as well as an audio out plug if you have your own speakers). But not only that, but it has built in memory and a SD card slot so that you can transfer photos and videos directly onto the projector. How good is that? We loaded up our RAW files disc from 4 onto there and were able to run our curriculum without any computers plugged into the projector.

Because it uses LEDs instead of a globe, it runs at a really low temperature, and does not require globe replacements like traditional projectors do.

We love it! Look out for them soon when they are released! We will post links to shops when they become available.

4 on Saying NO to Temptation Released!

Friday, May 14th, 2010

We are VERY excited! Our latest 4 module, ‘4 on Saying NO to Temptation’ is available now @ http://www.4store.com.au/4store/ !

One of the most valuable things that we can teach our kids is how to respond to temptation. 4 on Saying No to Temptation! teaches the 4 R’s – Recognize it, Resist it, Run from it and Repeat it – that will equip children to understand what temptation is and how they can overcome it.

Week 1: Recognize It
This week, Rob takes us back to Adam and Eve and shows us where temptation comes from and how to recognize it.
Pulse: Temptation is something I’ve seen before, so I’ll recognize it and shut the door.
Week 2: Resist It
Jen brings the word this week and reminds us of how David was able to resist temptation when Saul was chasing him.
Pulse: Prayer is an action that stops the attraction
Week 3: Run From It
This week, Paul shares with us about how a mighty man of God had to run away from temptation at Potiphar’s house.
Pulse: Temptation wants to talk to you, but only about the fun. But you know you’ll only get in trouble, so get out of there, RUN!
Week 4: Repeat It
Rob walks us through all of the ways that the enemy tempted Jesus in the desert. He shows us how, through scripture, Jesus was able to resist.
Pulse: Sin wants to make you weak, like a little kitten. Next time you are tempted, repeat ‘it is written.’

WRITE A BOOK

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I am really proud and excited about releasing my new book Quadrants. It is at the printers as we speak and is four years in the making.
Pre orders are really encouraging and my previous books FLY and SOUND are both in their second print.

So why write a book?
I remember my lecturer at Bible college telling all the students that there was at least one book in all of us, and years later I agree.
When you write a book you can share what God has done with you on a whole new level. You can inspire and encourage from a distance which can have amazing follow on effects.
I regularly receive letters and emails from people thanking me for putting pen to paper. You have a book inside of you as well.

HOW DO YOU WRITE A BOOK?
Well fortunate for you the new ACC Accent magazine has an article on it, here are the main points on how to write your book

1. Spend Time With God. Ask God to show you what He wants you to write about and the direction you should take with your book. Prayerfully establish a clear purpose for your book.

2. Brainstorm and Map Out Chapters. Sort out chapters and give each one a title. Write an outline for the intended content and write down what you want your reader to get out of each chapter. Make sure each chapter is in congruence to the purpose and subject of your book. Save a word doc in A4 format, give it a working title (don’t spend too much time on this – you may wish to change your title later) you are now prepared to write. Congratulations! Your manuscript is now in progress.

3. Begin Writing. Invest an hour each day in writing, this can be in any chapter (at this stage they are not numbered). Write whatever is in your head into brief paragraphs under a subtitle, each subtitled section might be around 300 words. When a chapter is complete, you could have about 10 subtitles and a total of about 3000 words, if you aim for a book of 10 chapters and about 30,000 words in total. As books are usually printed in A5 size, your book will contain about 180 pages, making it the ideal ‘easy-read’ paperback style.

4. Rewrite.
Before beginning your daily writing commitment, read over what you wrote the day before, make improvements, changes and do some rewrites.  Mark Twain said, ‘There is no good writing, only rewriting.’

5. Set The Completion Date. After many weeks of writing and rewriting, set a deadline for completion. When you arrive at that date put the manuscript into your desk drawer for one week. Do not go near it until the week is over.

6. Read Through One Last Time.
After the week, bring your manuscript to the surface, and read through it one last time.  Allow yourself to make any further corrections or changes that are needed.  Allocate about 5 one hour sessions for this exercise.

7. Send The Manuscript to An Editor. Send your manuscript to an editor and have an open mind to changes and corrections; a good editor can make the difference between a good book and a great book.

HE IS RISEN

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

We pray you, your family and team have the best Easter Sunday as we celebrate Jesus triumphing over death and darkness!!!!
Here is a quick idea we are using to make ‘the’ message stick.
All the kids will be outside for our Easter Egg hunt in the park, after that we will teach on Jesus rising from the grave, he is risen, finishing the message reading Acts 1:11

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

And then we will produce a large Jesus helium balloon, complete with moustache, small beard , glued on wool hair and texta eyes. ( it has to be a large helium balloon or it just doesn’t lift, I know because we tried this once before with a smaller balloon with loads of decorations and lets just say Jesus never made it back to Heaven!)
Alternatively you could try one of your ballonologists more advanced sculptures, or go the hot air balloon for maximum wow!

Have a great Resurrection Sunday and enjoy your family
PS Use a pink balloon for Jesus’ face, the red one gives him a sunburn look.
