LIVING A SMALL LIFE

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I have heard a few leaders recently saying things like its OK to have a small life that focuses on self and to not dream, it’s also OK to not want to change the world.
I just can’t find a verse to substantiate that, in fact I find the contrary. We are told about living in a realm where ears and eyes have never been, we are told to die to our grandiose selves and to put the kingdom of God first, and in the departing words of Christ we are commissioned to go into all the world preaching and baptizing.
When leaders start talking about the contrary they are preparing to take their life back and run it at a less committed level. Their words are centered around themselves and their life and what they are going to do.
When a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies it produces life.

Phil Pringle’s latest blog has a fantastic entry on this, love the layout.

“Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.” Gen 13:11

The most boring & empty life is when you live for yourself. Biggest mistake Lot ever made was to chose for himself.

Abraham had given Lot 1st choice. He should have told Abraham he would go wherever he told him. Living for God means I eat, breathe, sleep, rest, work, think, study, train, plan & dream…. for Him, not for me.

Living for God will disadvantage me at times, many times, but that’s where real life is discovered, in sacrifice for another.

Lot should have chosen for Abraham and made sure he got the best land instead of choosing it for himself. After he separated from Abraham (his source of blessing) Lot spiraled downhill. Also, as soon as Lot left, God gave Abraham the vision of the Promised Land.

Our vision can be limited or expanded by the associations in our lives!

See you in Church!
